Former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has added his voice to the suggestion that the 2023 presidential candidate from the Labor Party, Peter Obi, can immediately return to the Democratic Party (PDP) of the people to pursue his president’s ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.
Sheriff conducted a disclosure on Monday during an interview on Today’s politics, a political program that aired on television channels.
According to him, credible information shows that Obi, who has just been in line with opposition figures under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition platform, may consider the return of politics to PDP, with the intention of fighting over 2027 party presidential tickets.
“Peter Obi ran under the labor party. His ambition was to become president,” Sheriff said. “The information available to me is that at any time from now, Obi will return to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP.”

The Obi Alliance recently with other opposition leaders under the coalition led by the ADC aims to shift the decision of all the progressive congress (APC) in the next general election. However, speculation remains full of the possibility of Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to compete for PDP tickets once again.
Sheriff also commented on an increase in internal permutations in the opposition block, saying, “Atiku has become a vice president of Nigeria. So for him, it is the president or not at all. Peter Obi also wants to become president.”
He further questioned the current political influence of the main competitors, including Atiku and the former Governor of the State of Rivers, Rotimi Amaechi, ahead of the 2027 election. “So that made the Vice President of Atiku and Amaechi. Tell me, which state they control?” He asked rhetorically.
