‘2027 President’s offer will destroy your legacy,’ Oshiomhole warns Jonathan

Former Governor and Senator of Edo’s state representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has urged former Goodluck Jonathan president to reject any pressure to fight the 2027 presidential election, warning that such a step can damage his political heritage.

Speaking at Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Oshiomhole described those who pushed Jonathan to return to the race as “enemies,” noted that the former president had gained a place of respect and relevance outside of public office.

“I really respect him. Now, how can Jonathan be a threat? We defeated him before when PDP really PDP. If a man has the best PDP, at his peak, and defeated, I think only his enemy will encourage him to go to the race,” Oshiomhole said.

Senator added that Jonathan had succeeded in maintaining his reputation and influence since leaving the office in 2015, the status he suggested to be preserved.

“If I advise him, I will say, sir, maintain this status. If I am him, I will spend the rest of my life in maintaining the relevance he has found,” he said.

Oshiomhole further argues that Jonathan will face heavy battles if he chose to run again, given the political landscape shifting in the south. “We will beat him if he comes out, very flatly, because now the south is no longer PDP. So where will he start?” He asked.

Jonathan, who nominated himself as a candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), lost the 2015 presidential election for former President Muhammadu Buhari from the Congress of All Progressive (APC).

Speculation about its return in 2027 has increased in recent months, with some of his colleagues claiming he was being designed to re -enter the race, even though he had not made a public statement about this issue.
