The faction led by Julius Abure from the Labor Party has expanded the Zaitun branch to members reportedly involved with other political parties, asking them to return to the party and commit to returning to their goals.
The National Labor Party Chairperson, Julius Abure, filed an appeal during the press briefing in Abuja on Monday, attending the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
Abure acknowledged Nigeria’s constitutional rights to associate with any political group they chose but emphasized that the constitution of the labor party prohibits double politics affiliation. He warned that the party was closely monitoring members who were allegedly in harmony with other parties and indicated that appropriate disciplinary actions could be taken on time.
“The party’s constitution is very clear, and the Nigerian constitution is equally clear, that you cannot be part of two political parties at the same time,” Abure said.
When discussing concerns over internal divisions, he noted that reconciliation remains a decent choice for wrong members, as long as they recognize their actions and return to the party in good faith.
“We witnessed members of the other parties, and at the right time, party organs will decide what will happen,” he said.
He added, “Because of that we used this opportunity to say that our door was open. They had to sweep their swords and return home. If they returned and apologized, we were ready to forgive them because we believed that there were no winners and no one was defeated.”
The NEC meeting came at the time of increasing political planning in the country, with several opposition party members reportedly held talks and informal meetings in all party paths.
