The police alerted the men to the bench of the Anambra king

The Anambra Police Command has placed its officers on alert to prevent any breakdown of law and order that may arise from the Awka customary stool dispute.

This was disclosed by the Spokesman of the State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Friday in Awka.

The statement read: “The Anambra Police Command has observed a concerning pattern of comments and narratives, following the report of the panel of inquiry into the Awka traditional bench, which may pose a threat to public peace and order.

“Consequently, the command has placed the Anti-Cult unit and Rapid Response Force, Awka Sector, on alert to proactively address potential security issues arising from the situation.”

He added that the Divisional Police Officers and their operatives across the state, especially in Awka, had intensified security surveillance, intelligence gathering and visibility patrols to prevent breakdown of law and order.

“To this end, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikioye Orutugu, urges all stakeholders and the public to exercise restraint, avoid inflammatory statements, and refrain from actions that could incite riots,” the statement added.
