21 Killed, three people were injured in the Kano-Zaria highway accident

At least 21 people were killed in a car accident along the Zaria-Kano Expressway on Sunday.

Corps public education officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Olusegun Ogungbemide, said in a statement on Sunday a heavy task truck and commercial buses were involved in accidents that occurred at 8:20 am, on the highway.

He blamed the accident on the “violation of the route” by the bus driver.

Ogungbemide said: “The initial investigation by the FRSC rescue and accident investigation team revealed that the accident was caused by a route violation on the part of the Toyota Hiace commercial bus driver, which violated established traffic rules and drove against traffic flow, produced a fatal collision with future trucks.

“Unfortunately, of the 24 people involved in the accident, a total of 21 people, consisting of 19 adults and 2 adults of women, were killed in the accident, while the remaining three were rescued with injury.”

“The remnants of the victims have been stored at the Nasarawa Hospital in Kano, while the FRCC rescue team works with other emergency respondents to clean the road and restore normal traffic flow.”
