Nigerians warned Asari Dokubo against comments that would incur the wrath of the US

Nigerians have warned former Niger Delta militant and former leader of the now-defunct Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, against making comments that could incur the wrath of US President Donald Trump by diverting his attention to the country.

Dokubo consistently issued statements mocking the US following Trump’s order for US troops to invade Nigeria and eradicate terrorists in the north of the country.

In some of his comments, Dokubo threatened to lead his troops against US forces, while in others, he stated that any foreign soldiers entering Nigeria would not come out alive.

On Thursday, he released another video insinuating that America’s goal in Nigeria was to steal crude oil as well as establish a Republic of Biafra for the Igbo tribe, adding that if that happened, they would not come back alive.

“If America dares to come to Nigeria to take our oil or create Biafra for the Igbo people, they will not come back alive,” said the former militant leader.

However, his statement did not go down well with many Nigerians who had warned him against inciting the US which could cause them to turn their eyes towards Nigeria after what they did in Iran.

Some comments on social media asked Trump not to take Dokubo seriously because his comments did not reflect the feelings of Nigerians at large.

Read some of the comments below:

@ObafemiEmilola: “We can’t joke around and let this guy get Nigeria into trouble. I think the president needs to warn him in time. I’m sure he never sent him any of this. He needs to be shown what the US Secretary of War said yesterday regarding threats to America which I don’t think they were kidding. He needs to STOP.”

@DrRobertsNjata: “I don’t think Asari Dokubo knows that the Americans are already in Nigeria. They are already here to train our soldiers in asymmetric counter-terrorism operations techniques. They are bringing military equipment and equipment to track and kill terrorists.

“They are sharing intelligence information with our military and in the near future terrorists and bandits in Nigeria will be eliminated. Asari Dokubo, why do you always choose to use hate speech to describe the Igbo tribe? Why do you hate Israel and the US? Please learn to preach love and brotherhood. We are all Nigerians living in one indivisible country.”

@Phonomobile: “It’s funny to hear loud threats from someone like Asari Dokubo as if he has the power to take on a global superpower. Such statements sound more like empty talk than serious talk. The United States is one of the most powerful countries in the world, so trying to act as if one person can stand up to it is unrealistic.

“People should be careful with this kind of dramatic rhetoric. If the United States decides to support the Biafra independence movement, shouting on social media will not change anything.

“Whatever happens, people like him must continue to speak out. The more noise and hostility there is in society, the more attention the Biafra independence movement continues to receive globally. Ironically, such rhetoric often pushes the conversation about Biafra further into the international consciousness.

“In reality, this kind of talk just makes him look like a comedian trying to act tough. He’s looking for attention and relevance.”

@AkaIkenga: “Look at this guy who has sold his birthright for a plate of yams, who doesn’t know where he comes from tomorrow he will be told he is Igbo. He is challenging Trump. I am sorry for you.”

@Ukpaka: “Everyone has ignored this guy even in Igboland. Including Ijaws. They abandoned him to his friends on social media -15 years. All these attacks on Igbos are for Tinubu to renew the contract for his security company to carry out military follow-up in the South East.

“The Nigerian military doesn’t need them. They don’t know the terrain. There are private security companies in the South East. Tinubu is not someone you can mess with like that. Go and secure your place or you will cause more problems, not only in Nigeria but also the international community. Mr. President should know that America is aware that this man has few troops so they will give him attention. He should be warned on national security grounds to stop seeking enemies for his country.”

@CPDFresh: “Make this one don’t take what the US changed for us. Because they say the 9ja military is a match against the US military. Abeg made people tell me to wake up from that dream.”

@WisdomDanjuma: “The entire president of a country is removed as if he were just an ordinary citizen by the US, but this is just complete nonsense. It won’t take a second for the US to wipe him off the face of the earth and no one will say a word when he comes.”
