29 Killed, two missing Niger boat mishap

At least 29 people were killed in a ship accident on Tuesday in the Gausawa community in Bangsal Malale, the area of โ€‹โ€‹the Borgu Regional Government in the state of Niger

The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Sarah, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday in Minna.

He said the ship, which carried 90 passengers, including women and children, overturned at 11:30 am on Tuesday.

He added that the boat took off from Tunjan Sule in the Shagunu Ward and headed to Dugga for condolences when the accident occurred.

According to Boss Nsema, the ship collided with a tree stump, which resulted in a tragic incident.

“When filling out this report, 29 bodies have been found, with 50 people rescued lives, while two people are still missing.

“The advantages and collisions with tree stumps are believed to be the cause of accidents,” said Baba-Sarad.
