At least 30 people have been killed and 400,000 others have been displaced from their homes by devastating floods this week in Borno State.
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) spokesperson Ezekiel Manzo disclosed this to reporters on Wednesday.
The floods that occurred following the collapse of the Alau Dam on the Ngadda River last weekend forced residents to flee their homes in droves.
The state government on Tuesday warned residents of the state to be wary of crocodiles, snakes and other deadly animals that have washed into communities due to flooding.
Manzo said: “The death toll is 30.
The situation in Maiduguri is quite scary.”
Another NEMA official, Zubaida Umar, added:
“Floods have hit about 40 percent of the city. People have been forced to leave their homes and are scattered everywhere.
“Based on our statistics, there are 414,000 people displaced.”
