36 states, FCT each received N3 billion from Nigerian government to tackle floods, boost agriculture

The 36 states in the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will receive N3 billion from the Federal Government in an effort to mitigate the impact of the recent flood disaster.

This development was announced by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Mr. Wale Edun while speaking with journalists at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday after inspecting the flood-affected areas in Kebbi.

Listen to him; “I wish to announce that the National Economic Council has proactively decided to allocate N3 billion to support all states across the federation and the FCT in mitigating the impact of this year’s floods.”

“That will put many states like Kebbi in a good position to be able to prepare their farmers for a very important dry season, which we expect to be successful, well planned and well executed.”

He noted that this initiative would culminate in success by ensuring the availability of food at affordable prices, which would help reduce inflation and further stabilize the economy.

He conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to support the country’s efforts to maintain security, enhance resilience and increase productivity, ultimately strengthening its position as Nigeria’s breadbasket.

Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, also spoke out, expressing concern that the floods had affected many local governments more severely than he observed during a recent visit.

However, he praised the resilience and determination of the Kebbi people and assured that they would be motivated to achieve better agricultural yields in the coming dry season.

The minister also noted that, in addition to the N3 billion support, the federal government has approved the New Hope Infrastructure Fund, which will be used to finance, among others, the Badagry – Sokoto road.
