41 dead, 12 rescued in boat accident in Zamfara

At least 41 people died in a boat accident in Gummi town, Gummi local government area, Zamfara State on Saturday.

The Director of Emergency at the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA), Hassan Dauran, confirmed the incident to journalists in Gusau.

He said the boat was carrying 53 people including children when it capsized.

12 passengers were rescued alive by emergency personnel who rushed to the scene after the incident.

A member of parliament from Gummi-Bukkuyum Federal Constituency, Suleiman Gummi, also confirmed the incident in a statement.

He expressed his sympathy to the families of the accident victims.
