4th edition of the CDS Unity Basketball Championship to be kept in Lagos-Dhqs
Abuja (basic reporter) The Defense headquarters has announced that the 4th edition of the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Unity Basketball Championship (South-West Zone) will take place in Lagos between September 30 and October 5, 2025, at the National Stadium and the Teslim Balogun, Surulere, Lagos.
A declaration of the Defense Brigadier Brigadier Director, Tukur Gusau, said that the annual championship is part of the non -Kinetic approach of the CDs to strengthen safety while promoting unity, discipline and teamwork among the young Nigerians. Through the power of sport, the tournament tries to instill values of peace, resilience and construction of the nation between the communities.
The championship should present 12 elite men’s basketball teams taken from the South-West and nearby states, including a military team. There will also be exhibition matches of veterans and entertainment in half time.
Cash prizes, medals, trophies and certificates will be awarded to the participating teams, while special recognition prizes including most precious players (MVP) and the Best tournament will receive prizes.
The objectives of the tournament are promoting unity and peace through sport and involving young people in positive and productive activities, removing them from social vices, strengthens civil-military relationships through sportiness and fair play and identifies, feeding emerging basketball talents that can represent Nigeria internationally.
The CDs stressed that “the basket unity basketball tournament is more than a simple game; it is a platform to unite the communities, inspire young people and strengthen the values of teamwork and discipline. Through non -Kinetic approaches, we aim to promote a stronger and more united Nigeria”.
The grand finale and closing ceremony will show an exhibition game with veterans players, musical performances and the official presentation of trophies and medals for athletes and exceptional teams.
