6 non -Kinetic Brigade initiative: Taraba community sign the peace package
Jalingo (basic reporter) in the field of current efforts to encourage peaceful coexistence between different communities in the state of Taraba, the commander 6 Brigade Army/sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (Ottws), the Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Monday 23 June 2025, convened a peace dialogue between Gassol Tiv). The meeting was held at the conference room of the brigade headquarters in Jalingo.
The peace initiative followed the growing tensions and the unresolved municipal controversies between the Tiv and Fulani populations in Gassol LGA. In a proactive move to avoid violence, the Uwa Brigade General invited the president of Gassol LGA, Hon. Abubakar Usman, together with traditional leaders, elderly people of the community and other critical interested parties to deliberate on a sustainable path towards peace.
In his observations, the Uwa Brigade General condemned the cycle of violence and warned against the law in his own hands. He stressed that no individual or group has the constitutional mandate to enforce justice outside the limits of the law. The commander urged all parties interested in being ambassadors of peace and development agents in their communities, underlining that true security, growth and prosperity can only be achieved in an atmosphere of unity and mutual respect.
He also appreciated the president of Gassol LGA, Hon. Abubakar Usman, for his leadership and commitment to peace by mobilizing his people for dialogue.
The parties involved have decided to embrace peace, promote regular dialogues and desist from criminal elements within their communities. They have committed themselves to supporting security agencies with timely information and working collectively to prevent the re -emergence of the conflict.
Speaking on behalf of the Gassol communities, the president of the LGA, Hon. Abubakar Usman, praised the commander of the 6 brigade brigade for starting the peace process. He praised the Nigerian army, in particular the troops under the 6 brigades, for their incessant sacrifices and efforts to maintain peace and stability in the area.
The meeting culminated in the signature of a peace pact by all present parties, with a commitment shared to support resolutions and work in collaboration with the relevant authorities to guarantee full implementation.
