Police deploy 4,200 personnel ahead of FCT hunger protests

In a bid to prevent potential outbreak of violence during the proposed nationwide protests, the Federal Capital Territory police command has deployed a total of 4,200 policemen across the nation’s capital.

The command also announced the deployment of explosives experts at various strategic locations.

This was revealed in a statement on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, who added that the deployment of troops was aimed at ensuring public safety, protecting protesters, and preventing the protests from being hijacked by non-state actors.

He added that there would be raids on identified vulnerable points, unfinished buildings/huts, and stop and search operations, among others, in collaboration with relevant security agencies.

Ripples Nigeria reports that the proposed hunger strike is scheduled to take place between August 1 and 10, 2024 across the country.
