Southampton reject low offer for Onuachu

Southampton manager Russell Martin has revealed the club have received an offer for striker Paul Onuachu but it is significantly below his valuation.

Onuachu, 30, impressed last season while on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, where he scored 15 goals in 25 league appearances.

Trabzonspor, who are interested in signing the Nigerian striker on a permanent basis, have yet to meet Southampton’s asking price.

“We had an offer for Paul and it was nowhere near what the club was valuing him at,” Martin told the Daily Echo. He praised Onuachu’s professionalism since returning to training.

“Paul has been fantastic. He has trained really well and we have had a good chat. He has been very honest with me and I have been very honest with him.”

Martin confirmed that Onuachu has not submitted a transfer request and is committed to his training regime.

“As far as I know, there has been no transfer request. If they tell me something different, I will tell you. But so far, no. He is training hard; you have probably seen that yourself.

“He’s not ready to play yet. He just came back on Sunday, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
