Cisco plans to lay off 4,000 workers, to focus on AI

The world’s largest networking company, Cisco, has concluded plans to lay off a number of employees in a second round of layoffs this year and concentrate on artificial intelligence.

Reports have emerged that 4,000 or more people may be affected by Cisco’s current wave of layoffs, comparable to the number of workers laid off in February.

Sources said Cisco has shifted its focus to higher-growth industries such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence since last year and is cutting more jobs to save costs.

They added that the company was facing difficulties due to slow demand in its core industries and supply chain constraints.

Moves such as the $28 billion acquisition of cybersecurity firm Splunk have pushed the company to diversify its services.

In February, Cisco announced that a series of company layoffs would impact 4,250 employees or 5% of the total workforce.
