The Katsina State Police Command has foiled two kidnapping attempts in the state and rescued a total of seven victims.
According to the command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the first incident occurred on Wednesday at Yan Shantuma village in Danmusa Local Government Area.
“On Wednesday, at about 4:30 p.m., a distress call was received at the Danmusa Divisional Police Headquarters that some suspected bandits had attacked the village,” Sadiq-Aliyu said. “The suspected bandits kidnapped three persons, stole 23 goats, robbed the villagers of food and some valuables.”
Police deployed officers working with the Katsina State Community Surveillance Corps (KSCWC) and ambushed the attackers in Tashar Ice village, leading to a fierce fight. The attackers escaped with gunshot wounds, and the three kidnap victims were rescued unharmed, with the stolen items recovered.

In the second incident, on Tuesday at around 18.50 WIB, information was received at the Safana Division Police Headquarters that a Volkswagen Golf II car was seen abandoned on the side of the road in Gobirawa Village along the Gora-Runka road, and its passengers were suspected of having been kidnapped.
The DPO deployed a search and rescue team to the scene, and after a fierce gun duel with the suspected kidnappers, four occupants of the abandoned vehicle were rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
“Efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing bandits as investigations continue,” Sadiq-Aliyu said.
The state Commissioner of Police commended the efforts of the officers and urged them to maintain the tempo. He asked the public to continue to provide vital and timely information on criminal activities to the command and other security agencies.
