●He has seven days to recant and apologize
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has been given seven days to retract a “malicious and defamatory statement” against Dr Asue Ighodalo and issue a private and public apology for the breach or face a N20 billion lawsuit.
The contents of this letter are dated August 12, 2024, drafted by Ayo Asala, SAN & Associates, Advocates and Counsel, and addressed to Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21 election in Edo State.

While appearing on national television, Arise News, Oshiomhole had made very wild and unfounded claims, “blatantly lying about the status of Ighodalo’s candidacy. Even when he was cautioned and warned about the fallacy by the moderators of the program, he stood by his claims and also made other disparaging remarks about Ighodalo, thus directly attacking his person, reputation and integrity last week.”

The letter seen by our correspondent read in part: “On or about August 7, 2024, our client’s attention was drawn to widely reported statements made by you during an interview on a national television station, Arise News, during its Morning Show program, which were of concern to our clients.

These claims were also widely circulated on various social media platforms, including ‘X’ (formally called Twitter), ‘WhatsApp’ and ‘Facebook’, among others.”
Ighodalo’s lawyers then specifically requested that Oshiomhole, within seven days of receiving the letter, write a private letter of apology and retraction of the false and defamatory statements to Ighodalo and a further public letter of apology and retraction to be published on Arise TV and two national newspapers, namely Vanguard and ThisDay Newspapers.
Ighodalo’s lawyers concluded that failure to comply with their demands will result in legal action involving a claim for damages by N20B without further notice.
