NYSC assures corps members will get enhanced allowances amid implementation of new minimum wage

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has assured corps members that their monthly salaries will be increased after the Federal Government implemented a new minimum wage.

This promise was made by the Director-General of NYSC, Yusha’u Ahmed, during his visit to Kebbi and Sokoto states to address two members of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ corps at the orientation camp.

Ahmed stressed the invaluable contribution of corps members to the socio-economic development of the country, and urged them to utilize their service year to develop themselves and plan for a brighter future.

He encouraged corps members to take advantage of NYSC’s skills development and entrepreneurship programmes, saying, “At least, learn one skill while in camp and after the Orientation Course, you continue with post-camp training. Try to acquire skills that will enable you to create jobs and employ others instead of looking for jobs.”

The Director-General highlighted the success stories of former Corps members who have excelled in their various fields of work, citing NYSC Management’s partnerships with leading organizations such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bank of Industry, Unity Bank, Access Bank and the NNPC Foundation. These partnerships are aimed at providing loans and grants to Corps Members, empowering them to become entrepreneurs and job creators.

“We have many former Corps members across the country who are currently performing well in their various fields of service,” Ahmed said. “We want to encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and make the most of your year of service.”
