Andrew Wynne, a British citizen wanted by Nigerian Police, has said he will not hand himself in due to fears for his safety.
Police issued a search warrant for Wynne and a Nigerian associate, Lucky Obiyan, on Monday, offering a N20 million reward for information leading to their arrest. Authorities accuse them of trying to overthrow President Bola Tinubu by allegedly financing recent protests against poor governance and hunger.
Wynne denied the allegations and claimed that police had not formally invited him to discuss the allegations.

In response, police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed on Tuesday that Wynne had been invited to come forward and present his case. βWe have established one or more offences against him and declared him wanted. His accomplices have been charged in court. Let him come out. As a leader and businessman who allegedly mobilized hidden cells to create unrest in Nigeria, he must show his leadership and prove his innocence,β Adejobi said.
But Wynne said Wednesday that he feared for his life if he turned himself in. Referring to the case of his employee Yomi, who he said was brutally tortured by police for days after his arrest, Wynne expressed deep concern.
Wynne, 70, said: βThe police said if I am innocent, I should surrender. I am innocent. But like Yomi, who was completely innocent and tortured for three days, why should I surrender to torture? My fear is not just about torture; it is about my survival. I am not sure I will survive a year if I go back to Nigeria.β
