PDP suspends Dino Melaye, summons Senator Suswam, others over alleged anti-party activities

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Senator Dino Melaye of Kogi State over alleged anti-party activities, according to a memo seen by journalists on Friday.

The suspension was made by the party’s ward executive committee in Ayetoro/Iluagba District 1 after reviewing the report of a disciplinary committee set up to investigate Melaye’s actions.

The PDP has taken swift action against Melaye, deeming his recent actions detrimental to the party’s interests and unity.

In its statement, the PDP said, “The suspension of Senator Dino Melaye is a result of his alleged anti-party activities, which are deemed detrimental to the interests and unity of the party.”

This action is not new, as the PDP has taken similar action against other members accused of anti-party activities.

Peter Babalola, a chief from Osun, was suspended in August 2024 for alleged anti-party activities and has not attended party meetings for two years. Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom was also suspended by the Benue PDP for alleged anti-party activities.

The PDP has shown its commitment to maintaining party discipline and unity, and details of Melaye’s suspension are still emerging. More information is expected to follow.

In a related development, Senator Gabriel Suswam and others were summoned by the Benue PDP for alleged gross misconduct and anti-party activities.

The PDP has shown that it will not hesitate to take action against members involved in activities deemed detrimental to the party’s interests.
