Sultan-led JNI calls on Nigerian government to publicize flood-prone areas

Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), led by the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged the Federal Government to identify and publicize flood-prone areas to enhance the safety of citizens and encourage preventive measures.

JNI Secretary General Prof. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu stressed the need for proactive flood control strategies, including early warning systems and strengthening vulnerable dams, especially those that pose significant risks to life.

JNI has voiced its concerns over the ongoing flooding in Nigeria, and advocated for a comprehensive approach to address the problem. The organization expressed sympathy to the victims of the recent floods, as well as offering condolences and support.

The statement noted the severe consequences of the floods in several states, including Maiduguri, where the breach of the Alau Dam resulted in the loss of many lives and property.

JNI expresses its deepest condolences to the affected families and communities, prays for the victims and asks for divine guidance and mercy.

The organization has called for humanitarian assistance from Nigerians and international agencies, stressing the importance of collaborative efforts to alleviate suffering and aid recovery.

JNI has encouraged donations, community-based support systems, and relief initiatives, providing a bank account for cash donations to help Maiduguri flood victims.

In closing, the statement underlined the need to seek God’s help, guidance and protection, and expressed confidence that the disaster could be overcome through collective efforts, compassion and proactive governance.
