NFF announces no changes to Super Eagles head coach vacancy…Eguavoen returns for AFCON and CHAN qualifiers

Austin Eguavoen will continue as interim head coach of the Super Eagles for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in October.Eguavoen, who was called to fill the Super Eagles’ vacant coaching position for this month’s AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda, also serves as NFF Technical Director.

Nigeria will play a double, on October 11 and 15, against Libya, who also appointed a new coach, Nasser Al-Hadiri, after Milutin Sredojevic was reportedly sacked following a poor start to the AFCON qualifying campaign, with a draw and a defeat against Rwanda and Benin Republic. respectively.

The latest development was announced on Thursday following a resolution by the NFF Executive.

In addition to Eguavoen, Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede will also continue as assistants, while Tajudeen Baruwa will remain goalkeeping coach.

The Super Eagles have been left without a top coach since the resignation of Finidi George, who resigned after a dispute with the Federation.

Meanwhile, the NFF also appointed the same technical team to take charge of Nigeria’s qualifiers for the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

With the playoffs set to begin next month, no appointment was made for the vacant position.

Nigeria has not appeared in the CHAN since 2018 and will be Eguavoen’s first attempt to qualify Nigeria for the competition.

The CHAN is held every two years and the competition is for national team players who are in the National Leagues or in Africa.
