I can’t be bullied, Rivers doesn’t belong to anyone,’ Fubara Wike replied

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reacted to statements by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, on the ongoing political crisis in the state.

The former Governor of Rivers State last weekend mocked Fubara for supporting the People’s Action Party (APP), a party he considered inferior to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

At a civic reception hosted by the Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike stated that God used him to make Fubara, an Ijaw man, governor of the state.

He also claimed the ongoing projects and structure of the PDP in the state.

He said: “Who has been made Fubara?… I have made an Ijaw man governor of Rivers State. God uses us… So, who loves Ijaw more?

“These are people we have defeated politically several times. If there is another chance, we will beat them again.”

However, Fubara responded Sunday at the church’s inter-denominational thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Paul in Port Harcourt, saying, “Rivers State is no one’s business… We need to join hands to defend and develop our state.

“With respect my Dean, when you say our national anthem is changed, for me, I like this new song, especially the one that says – a nation was built, where no one is oppressed – this is very unique.

“If that’s my opinion, you have to understand, I can’t be the one bullying anyone. And due to the fact that I cannot be the one who oppresses anyone, by God’s special grace, no one can oppress me. Please, we need to join hands to defend and develop our country.

“So, don’t be afraid of anything, we have passed the most difficult stage. It’s true, we’re past it. Some of our decisions may be unfortunate but we have to continue living as a family.

“Because right now what is important is protecting the soul of this country. It doesn’t belong to anyone. Rivers State is no one’s business. So, you have to stand strong and fight.”

He stressed his commitment to protecting the country’s interests, and urged his citizens to “stand firm and fight.”
