The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a suspected gunman with 440 live ammunition and seven illegal miners in Kaduna State.
The NSCDC Commander in the state, Nuhu Muhammadu, disclosed this at a press conference on Wednesday in Kaduna.
He said: “On Tuesday, our men who were patrolling around Maje Road, Tudun Wada in Zaria, noticed suspicious movements of a motorbike rider and another person who is currently at large.
”While trying to interrogate them, one of them took a step and ran away. My men then conducted a search on a cyclist named Auwalu Ahmed, 62 years old.
“Our officers found that they were carrying bags containing 440 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition, with 20 empty AK magazines.
“My people are still looking for his colleagues while the investigation into the arrested suspect is ongoing and once the investigation is completed, the law will take strict action against him.”
He also revealed that officials arrested seven illegal miners in Kachia local government area of the state on September 30.
Muhammadu added: “Since I took office on September 6, I warned that all criminals must stop their evil acts, otherwise they will be arrested and prosecuted.
“This is the beginning, as you can see for yourself, of the arrest of a suspected shooter and seven illegal miners.
“I want to use this medium to once again warn all criminal elements in the state to repent or be ready to face justice.
“We will arrest them and bring them to justice as we try to entrust a country free from crime and criminality.”
