Joe Aribo prepares for the role of improvised center in Southampton

The midfielder of the Super Eagles, Joe Aribo, could continue on an unknown role as an impromptu partner for Southampton, with chief coach Ivan Juric expressing his confidence in his ability to adapt to the position.

Aibo was deployed as an emergency center during the 2-1 victory of Southampton over Ipswich Town last week.

The 27 -year -old began the game in his usual role in the center of the field and even opened the scoring in the 21st minute.

However, defense was forced after the injuries were set aside to Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Jack Stephens.

Since both defenders are not yet available for the southampton FA Cup clash against Burnley on Saturday, Abibo can be called once again to complete at the back.

“You need players who can play against fast players, and it is much more important to be fast than may be high,” Juric told Daily Echo.

“It’s like a different concept of football and maybe (James) Bree is going well as a backing of the right center because he has these characteristics for the position.

“And aribo, normally, if I always use it there, he will fall, because he is mentally a midfielder and wants to attack. But sometimes it is a great guy, it can do it. “

Aibo is no stranger to positional changes. During his time in the Rangers, he was often used as a false nine.

While playing in Center-back presents a completely different challenge, Southampton’s confrontation against Burnley could serve as another proof of his versatility.

Super eagles possibilities of doubt?

Despite its adaptability, the place of Aribo in the Super Eagles team remains uncertain. The new chief coach Eric Chelle has a lot of options in the center of the field at his disposal, which could make Southampton make the initial alignment.

However, his ability to play in multiple positions could give him an advantage since Nigeria faces the qualifiers of the essential FIFA World Cup against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

With only three points of their four games, the Super Eagles need to win the remaining six games to keep their qualification hopes alive.
