The former governor of the state of Ekiti, dr. Kayode Fayemi, said she was not accused of sexual harassment by the senator who represents Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan.
Fayemi made the clarifications after the senator who represented Ekiti North, Ciril Fasuyi, at the Senate’s plenary in Abuja on Wednesday 5 March 2025, said that Akpoti-Auduaghan had previously accused the former governor of sexual harassment.
Fayemi, in a statement released on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Ahmad Sajoh, said the statement was false.
Sajoh said: “At no time the senator Akpoti-Auduaghan-o anyone else, after all-never accused Dr. Fayemi of this bad conduct. It seems that the distinct senator of Ekiti has inadvertently misrepresented the facts, since this accusation has never been made against dr. Fayemi.
“Consequently, there is no basis for the further affirmation of Senator Fasuyi according to which dr. Fayemi would have presented a petition to the Senate in this regard.
“We would like to believe that, in his enthusiasm in defending the president of the Senate, Senator Fasuyi inadvertently confused the events, leading to a false declaration of the facts.
“For the record, the only professional commitment that dr. Fayemi has ever had with Senator Akpoti-Auduaghan was during his mandate as honorable minister of mines and steel development, when he supervised the issues relating to the Ajokuta Steel Company.
“While they may have had different opinions on the future of the company at that moment, their interactions remained strictly in the kingdom of political discussions. At no time the senator Akpoti-Usuaghan has made accusations of misconduct conducted against dr. Fayemi. “
Sajoh, however, urged Fasuyi to exercise greater diligence in verifying the facts before making public statements, in particular on sensitive issues that could damage the reputation.
“Dr. Fayemi remains committed to supporting the highest standard of integrity in the public service and rejecting any attempt to obscure his name with unfounded accusations,” he added.
