Osun State University, Osogbo, has confirmed the loss of five students in direct collisions that occur along the IFE-IBADAN EXPRESSWAY on Sunday, producing a total of 10 deaths.
In a statement released on Monday by university public relations officers, Ademola Adesoji, management detailed the tragic incident. “Our university management, after receiving this troublesome news, quickly sent a team to the scene to identify and support one of our students involved in the accident.”
Adesoji, quoting a report from Nigerian police and the Federal Street Safety Corps, explained the situation of the accident. “The accident occurred when a bus originating from Ibadan and 18 passengers who took off from Osogbo had a direct collision, producing many victims.”
He then identified students who died. “Unfortunately, we confirm the loss of the following students: 1. Olagbemide Dotun, a 200 software engineering student. Breastfeeding.”

Adesoji also provides an update about the only one who survived the university. “However, one of our students, Olagbemide Damilola, a medical student and 200 level surgery, survived the accident and is currently receiving medical attention. The police confirmed a total of 10 deaths from this unfavorable incident.”
Expressing deep sadness, Adesoji stated that the university would provide comprehensive support to the grieving families. “This tragic loss is very shaken by our university community. Our thoughts and prayers are with family and loved ones from the deceased. We urge our students, staff, and the entire university community to remain calm and support during this difficult time.”
He promised a sustainable update and while conveying a sincere condolence. “Osun State University will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed. We give a sincere condolence to the grieving families and pray that they find strength and consolation during this sadness.”
University management will provide the moral and logistical support needed to mourning families, including funeral arrangements for students who die, the statement added.
