It is time for dialogue – Diri – Blueprint Newspapers Limited

The governor of the state of Bayelsa, Senator Douye Diri, has again appealed to President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his declaration of a state of emergency in the state of the rivers and instead established a committee to reconcile the different parts of the dispute.

The governor Diri, who claimed that the rivers crisis can be resolved through dialogue, also declared that the ethnic nationality of Ijaw was not in conflict with the president or the federal government.

The governor appealed on Wednesday at the Congress of the interested parties of the Ijaw National Congress (inc), which was held at the Ijaw house, Yenagoa.

He urged President Tinubu and the National Assembly to constitute a committee of eminent personality to intervene immediately and restore peace and report the government legally established in office in the rivers.

He said: “Once again, I reiterated that this is the time of dialogue because it is a defeat situation for the people of the State of the rivers. He invites Mr President and the National Assembly not to waste time in the inauguration of a committee of eminent personality who immediately intervene and will report peace and the government consisting of the government of the rivers.

“The South-South governors forum, of which I am president, had urged the president to reconsider his position and allow dialogue between the parties.

“However, let me be unequivocal. The ijaw nation is not in conflict with the federal government nor do we have any controversy with the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
