Sultan loses his stepmother, Nana Asma’u, at 100 years old

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has lost his stepmother, Hajiya Nana Asma’u, who died on Tuesday at the age of 100.

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, who on Thursday paid a condolence visit to the Sultan over the death, described the demise of Nana Asma’u as a great loss to the Royal Family, Sokoto State and the country.

Great loss for the royal family

Governor Aliyu said Nana Asma’u’s death has created a huge void that will be difficult to fill, considering the maternal role she played within the royal family.

“The passing of Nana Asma’u was truly one death too many,” the governor said.

He appealed to the Sultan and other members of the royal family to accept death as something ordained by Almighty Allah.

“I want to appeal to Your Eminence and other members of the royal family to accept this great loss as something ordained by Almighty Allah,” Aliyu said.

The governor prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, accept her good deeds and admit her to the best abode of Paradise.

Sultan appreciates Aliyu’s visit

In response, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III thanked Governor Aliyu for the condolence visit and prayed to Almighty Allah to reward him abundantly.

The Sultan also prayed for the governor’s long life and continued service to humanity.

“We pray that you too may live long to continue serving humanity,” the Sultan said.

Governor Aliyu was accompanied by the state leader of the APC, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko; APC State Chairman, Haruna Adiya; members of the legislature; commissioners; APC Zonal Secretary, Isah Saddiq Achida; special advisors; senior special assistants and other political associates.

Special prayers were offered by Malam Bashiru Gidan Kanawa, asking for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness for the late Nana Asma’u and other departed souls.

Aliyu visits other grieving families

The governor also paid condolence visits to other bereaved families in the Sokoto metropolis.

Among them were the family of Abdullahi Kafinta from the Rungumi area, who died at the age of 80; Malam Abdullah Na Hali from the Kalhu area, who died at the age of 85; and the family of the late Malama Aminatu Shehu of Tudun Wada, who died at 117 and left 11 children.

Other families visited were those of Aisha Umar, who died at 87; Abubakar Abdulraheem; and Alhaji Garba Shugaba, 85, all from Tudun Wada area.

The governor also visited the families of Ahmad Mode of Gagi area and the late Aliyu Musa Mana of Mana area.

In all the places visited, prayers were offered for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
