Benue House of Assembly convenes Monimichelle for the abandoned project – Blueprint Newspapers Limited

The Benue State House of Assembly has convened Monimichelle Sports Facility Construction Limited, the contractor who manages the updating and renewal of sports facilities at the Aku Aku stadium, to appear before Wednesday 2 April 2025.

The contractor should explain why the state government should not stop its contract and deliver it to the commission for economic and financial crimes (EFCC) to recover the money paid to him.

The Chamber’s decision was driven by the motion moved by the leader of minorities, Micheal Audu, on the abandonment by the contractor of the project site despite having received 1.3 billion n1.3 on a contractual sum of n1.7 billion.

The leader of the minorities, Michael Audu, expressed concern for the fact that, in addition to updating the changing rooms and toilets, in addition to repainting the main bowl, the contractor did not provide the track, the scoreboards, the playing grass and projectors as specified in the contractual agreement.

He also said that the contractor wrote to the state government by claiming further works on the project equal to several hundred millions of Naira and asking for N300 million to eliminate the synthetic grass from the port before returning to the site.

The chamber while deliberating on the motion directed the Ministry of Finance to stop further payments to the Contractor and convened the financial commissioner and the commissioner for sport, youth and creativity to appear next to the contractor.

Contributing, the main whip of the room, Peter Ipusu, the deputy whisk, Mr. Cephas Dyako, leader of the majority, Saater Tiseer, expressed total disappointment for the contractor who collected the enormous sum of money and still keeps the state in ransome.
