Regnum Medical University, Anthony, Lagos, has obtained approval from the National University Commission to commence academic activities and admit students for the 2026/2027 academic sessionNo.
The approval authorizes the private university to admit students to six health-related professional programs, including Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy and Radiography.
The development followed a resource audit exercise conducted by a team of professors and specialists at NUC, who assessed the institution’s academic programmes, infrastructure, library facilities, laboratories, equipment and faculty strength.
Following the exercise, the university was authorized to begin admissions to the approved programmes.
The programs available for the 2026/2027 academic session are Medicine and Surgery leading to MBBS; Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D); Nursing Sciences (BNSc); Medical Laboratory Sciences (BMLS); Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT); and Radiography (B.Rad).
The university said the programs were structured to combine classroom learning with practical and clinical training, with the aim of training competent healthcare professionals.
Regnum Medical University is located at 326–330 Ikorodu Road, Anthony, Lagos, a location with access to major parts of the metropolis, including Maryland, Palmgrove, Ikeja, Oshodi and Lagos Island.
The institution said its facilities include classrooms, basic science, basic medical science and basic clinical science laboratories, simulation centers, a digital library, ICT facilities, rehabilitation facilities and student hostels.
The university also said it had brought together expert academics and healthcare professionals to implement its curricula.
The pioneer Vice Chancellor of the institution is Professor Akin Osibogun, Professor of Community Medicine and former Chief Medical Director of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, who served in that capacity for eight years. He is also a former president of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
The university said Osibogun will be supported by other professors and academics with expertise in various health professions.
The university management, speaking about the start of academic activities, said that its goal is to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and clinical practice.
“Our goal is to create an environment where learning meets practice. We are committed to training healthcare professionals who can compete anywhere in the world,” the institute said.
As part of its clinical training arrangements, the university said it has entered into agreements with hospitals under the Lagos State Health Service Commission for clinical training and affiliations.
According to the institute, the provisions are intended to expose students to practical healthcare delivery and enable them to gain clinical experience alongside academic training.
The university also said it has made provisions for student accommodation, including air-conditioned hostels, 24-hour electricity and water supply, internet connectivity and security.
Other facilities listed by the institution include a cafeteria, recreational areas and transportation services for students traveling to clinical training sites.
The establishment of the university comes against a backdrop of persistent concerns over the shortage of health workers in Nigeria and the migration of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health workers abroad.
Regnum Medical University said it hopes to help close the workforce gap by expanding professional healthcare training opportunities in Nigeria and training graduates who can contribute to the country’s healthcare system.
Applications for the 2026/2027 academic session are now open to qualified candidates from Nigeria and other countries.
Potential applicants are required to hold relevant UTME and O’Level qualifications in science, while admission to the respective programs will be subject to the university’s requirements and applicable regulatory conditions.
The university said admissions counseling sessions for prospective students and parents will be held physically and virtually in the coming weeks.
