The Minister of Work, Senator David Umahi, has stressed that 30 kilometers of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway will be ready to be assigned by Bola President Ahmed Tinubu on May 25, 2025.
Speaking during the appearance at Channels Television Politics Today on Friday, Umahi expressed satisfaction with the speed and quality of construction, praising the contractor’s efforts and comparing the final results of the way – although lightly – with “the way of heaven.”
“From the beginning of the one part, about 15 kilometers of double paths have been completed. “Our target is to give 30 kilometers of sustainable roads for Mr. President to conduct a commission on May 25.”
One part of the highway range from Victoria Island to the Port of Lekki in the Eleko area in the state of Lagos. Umahi explained that about 17 kilometers would be passed to avoid disturbing residential settlements.
The Minister also signaled a plan to introduce the toll road to the end of the year, said he would officially recommend the action to President Tinubu.

“The President does not see this as a legacy project,” Umahi said. “He views him as a strategic investment that promises high returns and long -term benefits for the Nigerian economy.”
The Lagos-Calabar-Coastal Highway, one of the mainstay of the Tinubu administrative project, has criticism from opposition leaders and public figures. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Presidential Candidate Labor Party Peter Obi are the same -the same questioning the transparency of the project contract appreciation process. Recently, former President Olusegun Obasanjo described the estimated N15.6 trillion project as “wasteful” in his latest book, Nigeria: Past and Future, released on his 88th birthday.
In response, Umahi maintains the integrity of the process, which states that both the President of Tinubu and any official have interfered in the selection of contractors or determining project costs.
“The president never recommended a contractor to me, also does not affect financial decisions,” Umahi said. “Former President Obasanjo once praised my transparency as Governor of the State of Ebonyi. I believe he would say the same thing about me today.”
