Ndume claims Boko Haram fighters killed 300 in six months, confiscating three LGA in Borno

MPs who represented the South Borno Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Ali Ndume, claimed on Sunday that Boko Haram rebels had killed around 300 people in the state in the last six months.

Ndume, who spoke to journalists on Sunday in Abuja, said the rebels are now controlling three regional government territories in the state.

He registered LGA under the control of terrorists as Gudumbari, Marche, and Abada.

Ndumed’s claim followed the terror attack last Saturday, which claimed eight lives and left more than 20 injured in the state.

Therefore, parliament members have strengthened the claim of Governor Babagana Zulum that terrorists have carried out their return in the state despite the rejection by the Federal Government.

.

He said: “We are worried because only from November last year, we experienced 252 attacks in the state of Borno. In the six months, more than 100 soldiers were killed. More than 200 civilians were killed.

“Three regional regions of Gudumbari, Marche, and Abada- are now controlled by Boko Haram.

“Right now, starting at 18:00, you cannot go anywhere except in South Borno. Even in South Borno, seven local governments out of nine – when it was 6, you could not go anywhere.

“You can’t even move between one local government and the other after 5 to 8 am – and that is only after the Nigerian army scans the road manually.”

Senator, who praised Nigerian military efforts in fighting terrorists, admitted that they were very excessive and lacking resources even though they had eliminated more than 800 terrorists in the same period.

“The Army did the best, but they could not do it without trained and adequate troops.

“If these things must be handled, they must be trained, they must be completed, they must be armed, and they must be motivated. That’s what I call the team,” he added.

He described the security situation in the state as “dangerous” with severe restrictions on the movement due to rebel activities, noting that most parts of the country had effectively entered the curfew.

“Many military formations have been moved by Boko Haram rebels, including those in Wajiruku, Sabongari, Monguno, and Ngala. Strategic Maiduguri-Biu Street is closed, and even the movement to Damboa is now limited to convoys regulated by the weekly military.

“The soldiers are not the problem. The problem is that they stretched thinly. The total number of personnel in the armed forces – including the army, air force, and navy – not up to 300,000. That was not enough to secure the country with more than 200 million people,” Ndume lasted.

He called for urgent actions from the federal government and the international community, emphasizing that without strengthening, training, and significant motivation, the situation could exceed control.
