Commodore James Blackmore, CSG commander, said the spread would send a “strong message” from the power of the British navy and air.

He said: “This is about supporting the main trade routes that exist from the Indo-Pacific region to England, and supporting partners and allies in the region, showing that we are there as a capable and credible force if needed.

“Highmast operations will show our credible prevention and support for NATO and international order based on rules.”

The Minister of Defense, John Healey MP, called him “very complex operation” which sent “strong prevention messages to any enemy”.

“This is a unique opportunity for Britain to operate in close coordination with our partners and allies in the distribution that not only shows our commitment to security and stability, but also provides an opportunity to improve our own economy and improve British trade and exports,” he added.
