The combined Nigeria (Auaton) Transportation Association, Lagos State Chapter, has scheduled one day protest on May 1 against Uber, Bolt, and other travel companies for alleged anti-employment practices.
In a statement signed by Auaton Public Relations Officer Steven Iwindoye on Tuesday, the union said the members would not do work to demand their rights.
The union protested the alleged wages of poor wages, unfair dismissal, insecurity, and unsafe working conditions.
Others are excessive commissions taken by the application company, the lack of proper driver profiles, mandatory face recognition systems, and dangerous and exploitative work policies.
Auaton accused that the company had ignored workers’ concerns and did not respect its rights.

The statement reads: “We have tried dialogue, and unsuccessful; these companies only understand one language: the language of economic pressure.
“By turning off our service, we send a clear message that we will not be ignored or not appreciated.
“After closing, we will follow up with clear demands and structured plans for negotiations.
“We will work with media outlets, labor organizations, and other stakeholders to strengthen our message and build support for our purpose.”
Uni, therefore, called for a global integrated response to the challenges faced by the transporter.
