The Nigerian meteorological agency (Nimet) has foreseen thunderstorms and Aze throughout Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday 29 April 2025.
In its meteorological prospects issued on Saturday 26 April, Nimet provides for moderate powder hanks in Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Borno, Kano, Yobe and State of Jigawa.
It also provided for isolated thunderstorms in some parts of the States of Adamawa and Taraba during the forecast.
The agency said: “In the central-northern region, Nimet includes a partly cloudy sky in the morning with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon/evening on parts of the territory of the federal capital, plateau, Kogi, Nasarawa and Benue.
“South is likely to experience morning thunderstorms in some parts of Lagos, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom, with thunderstorms expected later during the day in several southern states.
“On Monday Nimet anticipates the sunny skies through the northern region, with morning thunderstorms in some parts of the states of Taraba and Adamawa.
“Thunderstorms are expected to extend to Kaduna, Bauchi and Gombe in the States during the day.
“In the central region of the North, morning thunderstorms are probably on the states of the plateau, of Nasarawa and Benue, with thunderstorms scheduled for the afternoon/evening in various parts of the region.”
In the South, Nimet included morning thunderstorms in Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Edo States, with storms expected later during the day in different southern states.
Tuesday, Nimet included sunny skies with cloud stains in the North, with morning thunderstorms in some parts of the States of Adamawa and Taraba.
He added: “Thunderstorms are expected later during the day on parts of the States of Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba.
“The central region of the North should see partly cloudy skies in the morning, with thunderstorms in the afternoon/evening in some parts of the territory of the federal capital, Kogi, Kwara, Benue and Niger.
“In the southern region, morning thunderstorms are probably in the States of Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Bayelsa, with the thunderstorms scheduled later on the day in several states.”
Nimet urged the public to take adequate precautions since the strong winds could precede the rains in the areas with expected thunderstorms.
The agency also recommended northern people to be cautious, since dust particles could be suspended in the air.
Airlines operators were invited to obtain specific weather reports from the airport from Nimet for an effective flight planning.
The residents were injected to remain informed through the meteorological updates from Nimet.
