2024 National Sports Festival: 742 athletes to represent Ogun

Ogun State is destined to show over 742 athletes in various sports at the 22nd National Sports Festival, scheduled from 16 to 30 May 2025.

Speaking recently in Abokuta, the state capital, commissioner for sports development, Wasiu Isiaka, expressed confidence in the readiness of the state to compete favorably at the Festival.

He observed that athletes are currently on the pitch, diligently preparing the games.

“In addition to ensuring that we organize the best national sport festival, we are also ready to compete fairly against other teams as a guest.

“Over 742 athletes in all sports will represent us at the 22nd edition of the Nigerian version of the Olympic Games. Our athletes are receiving adequate preparation and are all at the field, seriously training for games.

“We want to compete very well and guarantee our athletes to receive the right training in view of the Festival. Some of them are in Lagos, Ilaro and throughout the state, working tirelessly for the event. We are aware of the pressure on them as host athletes, but we are allowing them to use some of the structures that will be used for games, so they can get used to them before the festival,”.

In addition to the festival, the commissioner underlined the role of the festival in redirecting the focus of the youth of the state towards sport.

He said that most of the structures would be made available to young people after the festival.

“We undertand the Impact of Sports, and We Don’t Just Want To Host for Hosting’s Sake. We Aim To Galvanise The Interest of the Youth In Sports. Apart from Being A Lucrative Venture, Sports Teach Lech Lessons Like Discipline, TeamWork, and Resilience. Our Youth Are Our Future, and Ogun State Has Always and Ogun State Has Always Been at the Forefront of Discovery Talents for the Country.
