In challenging the detention order from the Ekiti State High Court, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) continued with the Regional Government and the State Congress on Wednesday, describing the exercise as peaceful and successfully concluded.
This happened only a few hours after the judge EB Omotosho from the Ado Ekiti High Court issued a temporary order that stopped the congress, waiting for the resolution of the lawsuit filed by party members, Afolabi Adedeji.
The court orders came from the ex parte motion in the lawsuit number having/424M/2025, where Adedeji asked the court to stop the PDP and its leaders to receive a delegation that did not buy a nomination form or participated in the environmental congress with a majority voice. He insisted that only those elected on March 15, 2025, must be recognized.

The lawsuit stated as the defendant of PDP, Acting Chairperson of Umar Damagun, Secretary of the National Organizing Umar Bature, Chairman of the State Board of Ekiti Dare Adeleke, and the Independent National Election Commission (Inec).
As part of his request, Adedeji also sought substituted services from court documents regarding the defendants, quoting that their address was outside the court jurisdiction. The court granted the request.
“The leave with this is given to the Plaintiff/Petitioner to serve the 1st, 2nd, 3rth, and 4th of the original processes with documents that accompany them in a replaced manner, by attaching the same thing on the walls of the 1st defendant office located in Ajilosun Street, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti Om Justice,” Ruus Tegicoso.
He added, “In addition, the plaintiff/applicant was given leave to serve the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th defendant through their WhatsApp telephone number -0804767070, 08035961850, and 08033242822, each.”.
The court also directs all parties to maintain the status quo while waiting for the motion hearing on the notification, which is scheduled on May 14, 2025.
Apart from the legal setback, the PDP Ekiti guard committee praised the congress as a significant success, praising the behavior and number of voters.
“We are very happy that the Congress began and concluded smoothly without obstacles. Recorded that we started faster than the schedule at 8 am and during the day, we have concluded,” said Dare Adeleke, the chairman of the guard, in a statement from Ado Ekiti.
Adeleke also praised the election panel led by Dr. Eddy Olafeso, described their behavior as extraordinary.
“Today’s peaceful sightseeing shows how organized and dedicated the committee in preparing for this congress,” he said.
The clash between the legal decision and the party’s actions set the stage for further tensions ahead of the next court hearing.
