ALIERO, 2 other Kebbi senators explain the switch to APC

Three Democratic Party (PDP) senators from the Kebbi state have given a reason to join the Congress of All Progressive (APC).

The Senators – Adamu Alaieo (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (North Kebbi), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South), announced their defeat at Plenary Tuesday in Abuja.

The three, in a separate letter to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, said they decided to leave the PDP because it had been cut off from the aspirations of the Nigerians.

The letter was read by the Vice President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau, who led the plenary.

ALIERO said in his letter that he made a decision to get out of the PDP after a deep reflection, a broad consultation and a careful assessment of the current political and socio-economic reality and its constituents.

He said: “I have made a decision to officially resign from the membership of the people’s Democratic Party and rejoin all Progressive Parties (APC) where I am a member of the founder.

“This decision was not lightly made. I have become a member of PDP who is proud, a party under the platform that I was chosen to serve.

“However, politics should not be about personal loyalty on the platform; it will always be about services, solutions, and results.

“Today, I made this step in response to a simple question that must be asked by every leader who is responsible: what is the best for the people I serve?

“Over the past month, it has become increasingly, I mean first, clearly to me, that PDP, as it is currently established, has been cut off from the aspirations of the Nigerians who want to be led.

“Internal Division, lack of ideological clarity and inability to provide credible future agendas has made it difficult for leaders as me to pursue the reform agenda and development that is worthy of being accepted by our people.”

The former Kebbi Governor further stated that APC, on the other hand, has shown signs of transformation, especially under the new hope agenda.

He said that his defector was not brought from personal gain but because of the belief that APC offers a more decent platform through which he can effectively serve its constituents and advocate progressive policies.

“Nigeria must move forward and today, I move forward with people for people and for the sake of our future together,” he concluded.

Likewise, Abdullahi said that he rejointed with APC to donate his quota in the steps of the development of the administration of President Tinubu and Governor Nasir Idris in Kebbi.

He said: “Remember, on June 14, 2022, I attracted my APC membership and resigned from my position as the ninth senate leader after political disputes in my country.

“I am happy to note that the disagreement has been resolved effectively by the ruling governor.

“Therefore, I have no reason not to return to APC, in particular, because I am one of the main architects of its formation and success. For me, returning to APC is the return event.

“It is also important for me to join Mr. President, Tinubu.”

Maidoki, alone, associating his defector with the remaining crisis in PDP and his belief that APC’s ideals are more in harmony with their political aspirations.

“This will allow me to fully participate with new expectations for the benefit of the Senator and Nigeria District in general.

“When I was appointed as a senator in June 2023, more than 100 villages in the senator district I was occupied by bandits and continued to be afraid of kidnapping, rape and rustling cows.

“For the glory of God, the spread of troops in the electoral area I have played an important role in proactive security in the area, and my people almost all returned and farming peacefully,” the senator wrote.

In his remarks, the Senate leader, Openemi Bamidle, said that no one was forced to join the ruling party.

“If there are people who will be forced, not the Senator ALIERO, not the Senator Yahaya Abdulahi who will be forced, also not the Senator Maidoki, who also made a sign in the private sector before he joined politics.

“They are not in politics so they can feed, but they recognize the fact that this is not the time for us to become a stands. This is the time for all of us to work together to bring Nigeria to the next level.

“And I say it again, those who call this parliament as a rubber stamp must know that we are at a very critical stage of our national life when all hands must be deck.

“No problem where you are. What will be important for you is the main public interest,” said Bamidle.
