Delivery rider was arrested in the benue after disappearing with medical equipment bound by Zamfara

A delivery rider, Matthew Adoche, was captured by a zonal anti-crime unit from the Zone 2 police command in Lagos for allegedly escaped with high-value medical equipment intended for shipping to clients in the state of Zamfara.

The arrest followed the formal petition proposed by Dr. Ajefolakmi John, a medical practitioner based in Iloromu, Ile-sife, Osun State. According to the Petitioner, Adoche was contracted on April 15, 2025, to take and send medical equipment from the Ikotun and Ikeja area in Lagos to Idumota, from which the items will be sent to Zamfara.

However, Adoche allegedly disappeared with the equipment shortly after mastering it, turned off his cellphone and hiding.

After receiving complaints, the Assistant of the Police Inspector General for Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, directed the officer responsible for the anti-crime unit to launch a wise investigation of the problem.

According to Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Ayuba Umma in a statement on Tuesday, the investigation team tracked the suspect to the Ugbokpo community in the state of Benue, where he was finally arrested.

“After the arrest, all items were found except Mindray DP 10 Laptop-ultrasound worth N3.4 million, which sold for N1 million to one Chukwudi Eyinaya from the Mushin area, Lagos,” Umma said.

He further revealed that during the interrogation, Adoche claimed to sell ultrasound devices and hid the remaining items.

“After being asked, he claimed to have sold the ultrasound laptop, he kept the remaining items with his sister in the Ihiala area in the State of Anambra before moving to Adoka, the state of the ben that he was arrested,” he said.

Items found by the police include:

– Mindray SV 300 Laptop Ventilator XI
-Mindray 3-PART Hematology Analyzer XI
– Mindray Patient Monitor X2
– Trolley Monitor Patients X2
-Zoncare 12-Lead ECG XI

Umma confirmed that the investigation was still ongoing, adding that Adoche would be charged with the court at the end of the investigation.
