The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has deported a controversial Nigerian Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, and is prohibited from participating in the pilgrimage this year despite having a legal visa for religious rites.
Intellectuals based in Kaduna who confirmed developments in a post that he shared on his Facebook page on Monday, said he was deported because of his view of world politics.
He wrote: “For several reasons relating to my view of world politics, the authorities in Saudi Arabia do not want me to be present in the pilgrimage even though they have given me a visa.”
The scholar also stated that even though he was released for Hajj by Nigerian authority, he was refused to enter Medina which was the starting point for pilgrimage.

Gumi is part of the delegation of Islamic scholars under the sponsor of the Nigerian National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) which is mandated to offer religious services during the Hajj season.
According to the report, Gumi and the team arrived in Medina on Saturday night on the Umza Air aircraft with fellow scholars, but Saudi Immigration officials chose him and stopped him at the airport.
They, after that, refused to enter the kingdom.
“I thank the authorities in Nigeria for promising to be involved with Saudi authority about this issue,” Ulama, who since then returned to Nigeria, added.
