In major political developments, Governor of Umo Eno from Akwa Ibom State has officially announced his purchases from the Democratic Party (PDP) of the people to the Congress of All Progressive (APC), marking dramatic changes in the political alignment of the state.
The governor made a declaration on Friday during the press briefing held at the government building in Uyo, where he stated that the decision followed “three months of extensive consultation” with political stakeholders and major communities in all states.
“After completing my consultation round as your servant you have chosen to be served, so I decided to progressively move to APC,” Eno said.
Expressing appreciation to PDP for his support throughout his political journey, Eno noted that his time had arrived to make what he called “progressive steps” aimed at harmonizing Akwa Ibom with the federal government for mutual development.

“We joined APC today for the benefit of the state and because of our critical admiration and respect for the President of Tinubu and to provide the necessary support for the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio,” said the Governor.
He stressed that the step was not brought out of political pressure or weaknesses but as a strategic rearrangement intended to increase the prospect of state development.
“We did not join APC from the position of weakness but from the position of strength and life. We joined APC because of the need to harmonize our situation with the center,” Eno added.
Governor Eno also reiterated his commitment to the people of Akwa Ibom, convincing them that he would continue to work diligently for their welfare and progress, regardless of party affiliation.
“I will continue to work tirelessly for the benefit of Akwa Ibom,” he said.
The high-PROFILE EVENT WAS ONDED BY A delegation of APC Governors, Including Hope Uzodimma of IMO State and Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Francis Nwifuru Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, and Bassey Otu of Cross River, among others.
The governor’s restriction is expected to re-shape the political landscape in the southern-south region and significantly strengthen the APC footing in Akwa Ibom ahead of the 2027 election.
