A retired army greater, Joe Ajayi, was killed by his kidnappers after the payment of N10 million redemption from his family for his release.
Ajayi, 76, was kidnapped by his residence in the local government area of Kabba-Bunu, in the state of Kogi, on May 21.
The President and Secretary of the Bunu Leaders Forum, Prof. Olufemi and Dr. Ade Abanida, respectively, confirmed the accident on Monday 9 June 2025.
They said that the kidnappers initially required a redemption of N50 million, that the family could not pay.
As a result, Ajayi’s health deteriorated due to the lack of drugs.
They said: “The kidnappers later reduced the redemption to N10 million after discovering that his condition was critical.
“The family, who thought it was still alive, quickly accepted and paid the redemption to the kidnappers.
“Subsequently, the kidnappers directed the family where they could find it, but they found only her lifeless body shocking.”
Even the head of the public reports of the state police of Kogi, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, confirmed the accident.
Ovye-Aya revealed that the remains of the retired army majority had been recovered and deposited to the morgue of the Specialized Hospital of Kabba.
However, he said that the police would not leave anything of intended to reveal those behind the Dastard act and arrest them and face them the anger of the law.
