At the 25th Annual Bet Awards, which took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, June 9, 2025, Nigerian music star Ayra Starr made history by bringing home the coveted best international ACT trophies.
The Bet Award (Black Entertainment TV) Afrobeats artist who is 22 years old has further strengthened his rapidly developing profile in the international music industry.
From a very competitive nomination group that includes foreign players from Brazil, England and France, as well as fellow singers Nigeria Rema, Tyla and Uncle of South African waffles, and Sherif Black Ghana, Ayra Starr emerged as the winner.
Although nominated in various categories for African artists, he was the only African artist who won the trophy at this year’s ceremony, making his victory an important moment for African music.

In an emotional acceptance speech, Ayra Starr reportedly dedicated her victory to young African girls with big dreams, stating, “This means the world for me. For every young girl who watches back to home in Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Enugu, this is for you. We are here, and we will not be where they are.”
