The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the Tinubu Bola President “to immediately establish a presidential investigation panel to investigate the cancellation of general elections that violate the law on June 12, 1993 and identify those suspected of being responsible for intentional violations of the freedom of Nigerian democracy.”
The absorption of him “to direct the Attorney General Federation and the Minister of Justice MR Lateef Fagbemi, San, as a defender of public interest, to bring justice who is responsible for the cancellation of general elections that violate the law on June 12, 1993, regardless of their political status.”
The absorption also urged him “to direct Fagbemi to urge and immediately send to the National Council of the Executive Bill to change the 2022 Election Law including to make an electronic transmission of the mandatory election results and allow access to each voter to the election document.”
The absorption of him “to direct Fagbemi to immediately stop all cases of Nigerians who were arrested, detained, and faced unfair prosecution only because they used their peaceful human rights including participating in peaceful protests.”
The President in his speech at the National Assembly to mark the day of Democracy Nigeria declared his commitment “to dedicate ourselves to be a dream of June 12; freedom, transparent and responsible government, social justice, active citizen participation, and a just society where nothing was oppressed.”
In the letter dated June 14, 2025 and signed by the Deputy Director of Collawole Oluwadare, the organization said: “This expressed commitment will not be enough except your government shows the political will to fight the impunity for the cancellation of the June 12 elections and advance the freedom of Nigerian democracy.”

Shell said, “There is no person above the law, and there are no laws of restrictions on violations of democratic freedom.” June 12 “can not be achieved and real democracy cannot develop in Nigeria without election accountability, democratic reform and human rights and strict compliance with the rule of law.”
The letter was read in part: “Changing the election action to make an electronic transmission of the mandatory election results and allow access to each voter to the results will ensure a free, fair and transparent election and increase public confidence in the election process.
“Impunity for the cancellation of the June 12 election continues to encourage politicians to damage the country’s election and deny Nigeria’s rights for political participation and other human rights.
“Overcoming impunity for cancellation that violates the law from the June 12 election and ensuring the reforms of the election and human rights will improve the process of election of Nigeria and the right of citizens to participate in their own government in free, just and transparent elections.
“Directing Fagbemi to immediately stop all cases against Nigerians who face prosecution solely for the implementation of peaceful human rights they will strengthen democratic freedom and increase respect for human rights and legal supremacy”.
