Sowore accused APC of controlling Nigeria’s opposition, saying “Only AAC is independent”

Advocate of Human Rights and Former Presidential Candidate, Omoyle Sowore, accused the party in power from Nigeria, the Congress of all Progressive (APC), secretly controlled almost all opposition political parties in the country, stating that only his party, African Action Congress (AAC), remained truly independent.

Speaking during the appearance at Rubbin ‘Minds, a television program channel that aired on Sunday, Sowore claimed that the majority of opposition parties registered in Nigeria were only “multipurpose vehicles” made or funded by APC to manipulate the results of elections and simulate democratic diversity.

“What we find in our small research is that most of the parties left behind, regardless of AAC, are parties created by large parties,” he said. “They call them feeders or special destination vehicles.”

Sowore accused that these parties often served the tactical role for APC during the election -especially in the submission of court cases, he claimed, then “resolved” behind a closed door that benefits the ruling party.

“Sometimes sometimes, some candidates or parties are intended to help them with legal challenges,” Sowore explained. “So they all go and challenge the election, and anyone who wins will approach the opposition or smaller parties and finish it. Everyone is paid and walking away.”

He further condemned the behavior called this opposition group at an official election meeting, accusing that many people behaved like APC allies rather than independent votes who advocated reforms.

“The people who oppose us most when we go to the meeting are other small parties that you think are in the opposition,” he said.

When asked whether his criticism extended to more prominent parties such as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labor Party (LP), Sowore did not hold back.

“The Labor Party is the worst,” he said.

According to him, most LP members were never ideologically committed to political opposition and quickly returned to APC folds after benefiting from political opportunities in the party.

“That’s why I call the Labor Party as a short rent,” he said. “Most of those who go to the labor party sees opportunities. They come from PDP or APC. They walk there, achieve strength, and then when they have a booty bag, they return to their original place.”

Sowore’s statement further underlined its old position that the Nigerian democratic system was compromised by elite collusion and that real opposition was systematically neutralized. With 18 registered political parties currently recognized by the Independent National Election Commission (Inec), Sowore only insisted on a separate AAC.
