FIFA Club World Cup: Ahmed Musa asks for an urgent NPFL review

The captain of Super Eagles, Ahmed Musa, has requested a comprehensive review of the Premier Football League (NPFL) of Nigeria, emphasizing the urgent need for reforms in the organization of the League, the structure of the club and the official standards.

In a shared publication on its official Facebook page, Musa expressed admiration for African clubs that currently participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, describing the tournament as excitingly and financially gratifying.

However, he took the opportunity to establish a marked contrast between the global stage and the National League of the State of Nigeria, since the competition does not present Nigeria teams.

“I have been following the FIFA Club World Cup, and my approach has been in African clubs in the tournament. In addition to emotion, the tournament is a money tour for African clubs,” Musa wrote.

“It is a sober reflection if we compare the African clubs in the Club World Cup with our National League, the Nigerian Premier Football League. Can we compete at this level? What are we not doing well?”

The former striker of CSKA Moscow and Nassr requested a deliberate review of the NPFL frame, pointing out that talent alone is not enough to prosper in the modern football environment.

“We need to review the organization of the League, the structure of clubs and financing. We need to establish new policies and boost reforms. The NPFL is not lacking in potential, our football has a lot of talent and potential from the base to the elite level, but these factors are not enough in a modern football system.”

Musa emphasized the need for a collective commitment between interested parties to raise Nigerian football to world standards, both inside and outside the countryside.

“We must collectively decide our football work, which will ensure that our clubs compete at the continental and world level.”

The NPFL star also questioned the current state of arbitration in the country, highlighting the absence of Nigerian referees in FIFA and FIFA tournaments.

“What about the referees and arbitration? Other African countries are producing referees for caf and FIFA tournaments, but what do we have here?”

He concluded his publication with a note of support for African representatives in the FIFA World Cup in the course, wishing them success in global competition.

Musa’s comments have already caused conversations throughout the football community, and many have echoed their concerns and requested urgent steps to relive the fortune of the Nigeria first level league.
