PDP returned the Senator Anyanwu, suspended the NEC meeting on June 30 after the discussion with Inec

The Democratic People’s Party (PDP) has canceled his previous position at Senator Samuel Anyanwu, returning it to the National Work Committee (NWC) and suspended a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) planned to be scheduled on June 30.

The announcement was made during the press briefing on Wednesday at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, where Acting National Party Chairperson, Ambassador Umar Damagum, spoke to journalists along with famous stakeholders, including the Governor of State Bauchi Bala Mohammed and former President of the Bukola Saraki Senate.

Damagum describes the decision as a “difficult” resolution but needs to be achieved after an extensive consultation and the new interface with the Independent National Election Commission (Inec), which records it has not been officially notified of the future NEC.

“Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been restored in the NWC. That is a difficult decision, but what is received by many party members, including party organs,” Damagum said.

He further clarified that Anyanwu would continue his duties as the National Secretary of the PDP, marking his full reintegration into the party executive structure.

“That is why I say it is a critical decision. As Inec said, they do not have a notification, so what we will have on June 30 is the expanded caucus,” Damagum added. “In the next caucus, we will make a decision that leads to the right NEC.”

Anyanwu’s recovery came in the midst of internal friction for months and the loyalty contested in the PDP leadership ranks.

While these steps may not completely complete the undercurrent of the dispute that has interfered with the party in recent months, the announcement of Wednesday seems to be a step towards unity and procedural compliance, the key elements needed by the party for navigating the challenging political climate.

By putting aside the NEC meeting and instead of choosing an expanded caucus, PDP seems to buy time to rebuild consensus and re -harmonize its internal process in the hope that the election commission.
