It was an unusual event that gathered elite characters on Thursday 19 June 2025 at Hilton Leisure Resort & Hotel in Awka, in the state of Anambra.
The influential online publication of Anambra Times was renamed as Alpha Times at the inaugural round table in the south -est, an initiative of the concepts of the Alpha Times (AT) media.
The publisher/editor-in-chief of the media group, Sir Paul Nwosu, PhD, revealed that the organization has undertaken the rebranding by repositioning the organ of authoritative news to take the initiative in the projection of the image of the south-eastern region through a better narrative, political dialogues and constructive commitments with critical stakenists.
At the inaugural round table and illustrious professor Godwin UN of the Department of Political Science, the University of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Awka, has held a main lesson on the subject, “exploiting the power of interstatal collaboration to unlock the economic potentials of the South -st”.
The Keynote address of prof. UN was subsequently distilled by a group of eminent discussions, in particular: Prof. Frank-Collins Okafor, who represented the Hon. Ogami afam of the house of repetitions; The much requested technocrat Hon. Mike Ogbuekwe; And the police commissioner of the State of Anambra Ikioye Orutuug, PhD, who was collaborated in the panel by the president of the occasion, the senator Victor Umeh.
In the words of the press release, “the event was intellectually stimulating, providing a robust platform to discuss the future of the southern geopolitical area -est in the face of economic safety, safety and other challenges”.
In his opening observations, the president, Senator Victor Umeh has warned political actors in the state of anambra to recite according to the rules in this important moment of the approach of the government elections of 8 November 2025 in the State. Senator Umeh advised governors and various leaders in the south -eastern region to focus on the areas of comparative advantage of the people to help the industrialization’s efforts of the area.
He then thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the bill of the Southern South -East (Sedc) Commission, underlining that the Region needs a technological model that will emphasize the acquisition of skills and the development of SMEs as has been done in China.
Sir Paul Nwosu, publisher/publisher/publisher, stressed that the event is neither an academic exercise nor a forum to develop a theory or non -existent paradigm. For him, what the event is re -proposing is similar to when Sir Michael Okpara dominated the premier of the old eastern region. He has also praised the signature of the law of the Commission for the development of the South -East (Sedc).
In his key lesson, Prof. Godwin UN, strongly identified with his roots and the IGBO identity, informing everything how his love for the Igbo race made him want to volunteer to join the Biafran army deceased during the civil war at the age of 5.
He disclosed his recor of activism, daring to ask for forgiveness of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu as a university student of the University of Ibadan. Prof. UN has recently been inaugurated as a member of the committee for the professor of Ohanaeze ndi-Rigo in his headquarters in the state of Enugu.
The crucial point of the lesson of Prof. UN focuses on a roadmap for the collaboration between the five states of the South -Eastern region. According to Prof. UN, “our goal is to explore how a regional economic strategy can guide sustainable growth, attract investments and position the south -est as a competitive economic center within Nigeria and beyond”.
It has detailed the areas of strategic alliance such as education that will lead to the creation of an educational cluster/hub that will act as a point of integration for high quality educational institutions, with emphasis on standard model schools throughout the southeast region; Technical and professional centers in all States of the South -est; State University of Alliance and Polytechnics; Uniform standards for private schools in the south -eastern region; and Regional Institute for Political and Strategic Studies.
On the question of technology, industry and production, Prof Onu suggested the models to thus improve the production and industrial sectors in the region: expansion of the production of cars and spare parts; Food and food processing in strategic places in the region; and develop industrial clusters etc.
He recognized the importance of the energy sector in economic development and suggested that the states of the alliance must establish an independent energy supply. He has supported sustainable mining practices, environmental regulations and transparent governance.
Prof. UN said that the states of the alliance should have a Hall of Fame in which the great heroes and heroines of the region and the inventors are exposed and recognized.
He presented a case for the establishment of the Center of Alliance for Science, Technology and Innovation in Agriculture and Covenant Industries. He also suggested the creation of the bio-technology of the state of the alliance and the central research laboratory.
The guest teacher suggested strategies for the management of the south-east environment, in particular: eco-compatible open parks for relaxation in all states; Effective waste management systems; Decongest the cities by moving the MDA of the government selected from state capital; Low cost accommodation for public employees etc.
He underlined that the state water supply cards should be restored to manage the environmental risks that derive from poor access to water supply.
Prof. UN highlighted the need for a well-coordinated alliance transport policy to increase the transport system in the south-east by connecting the main cities of the South-East region with high-speed railway networks; creation of elipadi systems that can facilitate air travel from one state to another; market the main roads and highways through an effective toll system; Build ecological bus stations through governments and local cities with good restaurants, modern toilets and mini Marts that should be kept clean at any time.
Through further observations, Senator Victor Umeh underlined the synchronization of efforts by governors in the south -est to have a uniform development paradigm. He claimed that his suggestion is in line with the development project of the eastern region of Dr. Michael Okpara, the then premier of the eastern region.
In his contribution, the police commissioner of the State of Anambra, Cp Ikioye Orutuug, PhD, said he spent speaking personal and not for the government or for the Police of He. He did Audace to emphasize that there is no development in which there is no security. He attributed problems in the State and in the Region to issues of moral decline in society. He invited the leadership to make aware efforts to “de-military the minds of youth” which was corrupt through the education of the defective family. He argued that the leadership of the South -East region must ensure that the new -east south that is proposed through the “alliance states” must be protected at all costs.
For his part, Hon. Mike Ogbuekwe has supported the creation of a Southern Southern Development Agency (Seda) by the five states that will complete the Sedc as a local supplementary platform that will help exploit the efforts of each state in the south –st towards the largest good.
The representative of Hon Afam Ogam, Prof. Frank-Collins Okafor, in his own contribution, implored the guest professor to consider how the ideals proposed in the lesson can be sold to the federal government and other segments of the Nigerian society without being misunderstood to be another form of marrying the secessionist ideologies of Biafran. Prof. Okaph raised issues on the fragmented political trends of the leadership in the South -eastern region and wondered how a regional agenda can be pursued in the face of fragments of political ideologies and affiliations. He raised the question of the practicability of ideas instead of simply proposing them.
The teacher’s teacher Prof Onu, in rounding, said that exploiting the latent economic powers of the South -est requires a paradigm passage towards greater interstatal collaboration by promoting a unified economic strategy that transcends the individual limits of the state.
For him, the collaborative approach is essential to promote sustainable economic growth, thus creating job opportunities and improving the general quality of life for residents of the region.
Its recommendation is that, by grouping the resources and skills, the states of the South -est can overcome the constraints of limited individual capacity and therefore reach economies of scale in key sectors such as agriculture, production and technology, as well as research and development.
From the contributions of the elite audience, the inaugural edition of AT Roundtable in the South -est is truly a sensational success. Most of the opinions rejected the need for the people of the South region -est to look towards the inside. Given the many challenges that must face the government at various levels, ndi-cans must trace their development course without relying or waiting for the federal government.
The concept of “states of the alliance” as a platform for the various governments of the South -est to meet and forge a regional economic strategy through mutual cooperation, the strategic partnership, the shared vision and a collective political will regardless of inclinations and political affiliations cannot be against.
The fundamental role of leadership in the economic development of the South -East is central to facing the fragmented ideologies identified as a great impediment to the development of the South -East region.
