Vice President of the Barau Jibrin Senate has openly expressed his interest in taking over the vice president’s seat from Ibrahim Shettima in 2027.
Barau made a statement on Wednesday during the press briefing in Abuja, where he discussed increasing speculation from political interest groups that urged the President of the Tinubu Bola to elect him as a vice presidential candidate deputy.
He stated that he was loyal to the President and would support any decision made by the President before the 2027 General Election, including the possibility of being elected as a running partner.
He said, “Whatever the President asked for me to do, I will do 100 percent,” said Barau. “He is my political father. If he calls me to work with him, I will only say, ‘Thank you, sir.’ And I will do it. “
However, the Kano -born senator insisted that the 2027 talks were premature, and asked allies and political supporters to put aside the initial Politicking and vice versa channel their energy to support the government of President Tinubu in completing the challenges of urgent the country.
“MR President has worked hard to re -position Nigeria and overcome the problems he inherited,” said Barau. “Time for politics will arrive. For now, we must focus on governance. When he succeeds, we all succeed.”
Throughout the briefing, Barau emphasized his political identity as “progressive to the core,” reiterate that loyalty has become the center of his political journey.
“I am 100 percent loyal to the president,” he said. “Loyalty is something that I really appreciate.”
While he acknowledged the good intentions of political groups that advocated for him, he suggested that their energy would be better spent on realizing the current governance goals.
Turning to the legislative issue, Barau also provides an update to the ongoing Senate constitutional review process. As chairman of the northwest zonal session, he outlined preparations for a series of public hearing that will take place in six Nigerian geopolitical zones.
“This audience is an important moment for Nigerians to form the foundation of our democratic law,” he said, encouraging citizens to submit memorandum and take part in constitutional dialogue.
Hearings, intended to consider 59 bills and 31 proposals, will be chaired as follows:
- South-South (Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom): President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio or Representative
- Northwest (Kano): Vice President of the Barau Jibrin Senate
- Southwest (Lagos): Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidel
- North-Central (JOS): Deputy Leader of Senate Lola Ashiru
- North-east (Maiduguri): Head of Whip Tahir Monguno
- Southeast (Enugu): Deputy Head of Whip Peter Nwebonyi
